Our prayer is that all remains well with you and your families. As COVID-19 restrictions are being relaxed, remember to be even more careful as most of us are in the most vulnerable age group. Your National Officers will continue to follow the lead of the First Presidency and the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. We trust their decisions will be inspired and will be taken to provide us the greatest safety. The National Office remains closed, although the office staff is working there during the week, but staying safe. Executive Council Meetings, Board Meetings, Editorial Board Meetings, Finance Committee Meetings and Past-president Meetings are continuing on the regular schedule, but are being carried out through zoom.
Chapter presidents, an alert for you. On June 16th at 6:00 p.m. we are holding a special Board Meeting on zoom to which all chapter presidents or a designated officer is invited. John Elggren will share the information that will be necessary for you to sign on either June 15th, or 16th. If you are not familiar with the use of Zoom, follow the instructions that will come to you on the 15th or 16th. Please watch for the necessary code for signing on. We hope you will share your experiences and your plans for the future with us and of course, bring your questions. We will try to answer them.
Recently some changes have been adopted which you should know about. It was unanimously approved by the Executive Council and the National Board that we grant to widows of past national presidents a lifetime subscription to the Pioneer Magazine and Associate National Membership. They, of course, have earned this recognition by their sterling support of their husbands as they served three years on the Executive Council. Thank you: Joan Hurst, Willy Pickett, Christi Belliston and Janet Luke. We are grateful for your service.
We have purchased a large self-propelled walk behind mower for $400.00 to be used by our buildings and grounds specialist in mowing the lawns at National Headquarters. This will save roughly $500.00 a month this summer from the contract mowing fees of past years. It is our desire to be careful with the diminished funds that are coming in during this pandemic.
Thank you AVPs and chapter officers for staying in touch with your members and for holding monthly board meetings. It is important that we continue to plan so that when it is safe to resume our scheduled activities, we can take them up quickly to better serve our members.
We thank our members for the many Pioneer stories that we can share in the Newsletters. We still have some waiting in the wings for inclusion. Do not be discouraged if yours has not yet appeared. We are trying to take them in the order of submission. We have taken the liberty to edit the stories because our format is for 800 words or less so there is a need to reduce the length of many of the articles. We hope that nothing most dear to your heart is being left out.
Remember the Online SUP. There is much valuable information contained there. As a paid-up sup member, you are entitled to first year membership free of charge. If you have difficulty joining, please alert us at National. I am enjoying the time that I spend on the site. We are indebted to Derek Rowley for all his efforts to bring this opportunity to us.
Remember you still have four more days to nominate candidates for National President-elect. You are encouraged to make nominations.
Plans are continuing for the National Encampment at Rexburg from September 17 to 19. Should the Encampment be postponed in 2020, our plan is to hold the 2021 Encampment at Rexburg so we may take advantage of the wonderful planning the Idaho Committee has put into this major event.
I take this opportunity to forewarn you that the President’s Message for the June Trail Marker will be longer than usual in order to properly observe some important history.
Have a good week. Maintain your SUP contacts while staying safe.
