You know, I know and the General Authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints know that the Sons of Utah Pioneers are the keepers of the Heritage of the Church. We are more important than some of our members may realize.

The in 1918 killed my grandfather and two of my great grandfathers. There was no cure then and at present there is no cure for . We take this disease seriously. Hospitals and ventilators can’t help much. I stayed with my father years ago when he was placed on a ventilator. I learned that 75 % of patients placed on a ventilator would not survive. I stayed with him day and night. He was one of the lucky ones.

The best protection from COVID-19 is strict quarantine. During this quarantine, we’ve missed our temple assignment as well as funerals and weddings.

What to do when isolated? Big changes disrupt lifestyles but for the thoughtful, also create opportunities. What is most important? Death will eventually come to all of us, but we hope not soon. The COVID-19 pandemic has simply added another uncertainty. When life ends, what is the most important thing that we can leave behind?

For most, the first thought will be financial security for our family. Years from now, your money will have been spent. What remains then will become more valuable, your biography. Consider how you value the biographies of your ancestors.

The current COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine is a gift of time to record your life history. When will you have more free time?
One way to begin your biography is to simply write down some of your experiences. You don’t need to put them in order, just save them by approximate year. Later refine dates and put them in a chronological sequence.

Have patience. As you write, your memory will be jogged. The experiences of your life will take time to record. Each time you return and re-read what you have written, you may think of other events and/or better ways to say what you have already written.

The most valuable part of your biography will be your spiritual experiences written in your own words. Be sure to record how you have coped with your life’s challenges. Don’t dwell on the negative, or that is how you will be remembered. Make your record realistic and honest.

The Book of Mormon is a priceless record of the good and bad events that happened to civilizations past, with the purpose of showing later generations how God loved those people. Your biography will likewise become a priceless gift to your family.
