Two corrections are necessary, one from last weeks newsletter and one from the June 1 Trail Marker. First, in last week’s newsletter I wrote that the June Board Meeting to which chapter presidents or their designee should attend on zoom would be June 16. That is WRONG. It will be WEDNESDAY June 17th at 6:00 P.M. Please note this correction.
Second, in the Trail Marker we were told that on July 20th SUP members and families will be admitted to This is the Place State Park at half price. That is also in error. The SUPer-DUPer events for July 20th are all postponed until 2021. There are no discount days in 2020 or special SUP events at This is the Place State Park through the remainder of 2020.
It is with sadness that we inform you of the failing health of Keith Van Roosendaal, SUP National President in 2018 and Executive Council member from 2017-2019. Keith has been an exemplary leader of SUP. He is also a personal friend and a wonderful, dedicated man. You are urged to keep Keith and his family in your prayers.
We have also received word that some of our members have contracted COVID-19. Please remember to social distance. It is a terrible illness and we do not want any of you to suffer its various consequences. Stay healthy and well.
Fortunately, there is some good news. Over the last four days which you had to submit nominations for National President-elect, some of you took the opportunity to make nominations. We are grateful for those nominations and we thank the nominees for agreeing to accept. Nominations closed as of mid-night May 31. In the next two weeks the Nominations Committee will interview the nominees and two candidates will be selected to be on the ballot. Campaigning will begin mid-June and run to August 1st when ballots will be mailed to all paid-up members. Voting will take place during the month of August, closing mid-night August 31st. No ballots post marked after August 31 will be counted. The results of the voting will be announced at the National Encampment in September. The quality of the good men who have been nominated is exciting.
There are two of our members who have written books that are on the market which I would like to recommend to you. Gary Bowen has written Christianity in the Americas Before Columbus: Unfamiliar Origins and Insights. Gary’s book provides historical authentication to the Book of Mormon and is available on Amazon in paperback.
Erick Wadsworth has published The Last Outfitting Station on the Missouri River 1864-66: Wyoming, Nt and the Nebraska City Cut-off Trail. It deals with the relocation of the trail from north of the Platte River to the south to a time-saving cut-off route used by over 7,000 Latter-day Saints in the mid-1860’s prior to the transcontinental railroad reaching beyond North Platte. Erick’s book can be acquired directly from him. His address is Erick Wadsworth, 2095 S. Sandcrest Loop, Nampa, Idaho 83686. During this time of being home due to the pandemic, it is an opportune time for some reading. These books can help enlighten you and help you pass the time in a productive way.
AVP’s are urged to continue to maintain contact with Chapter officers and Boards and Chapter Officers maintain contact with your members. Be wise in how you do so. As COVID-19 restrictions are being loosened, you are reminded to remain careful and guard your health.
At every opportunity we want to remind you of the National Encampment to be held September 17-19 at Rexburg, Idaho. Take the plunge and sign up early.
Until next week, stay well and remember our pioneer ancestors and the members of SUP who may be struggling.Recommend0 recommendationsPublished in
